Originally from Newport, Rhode Island, Monica resided in Vermont, Arizona and California before settling in Roanoke, Virginia in 2000. Her relationship with Virginia began in 1988 when she attended James Madison University for her undergraduate education. After being in the workforce for 5 years in Tucson, Arizona, Monica attended law school at the University of Arizona and received her J.D. in 1999. She began her law practice in San Francisco working for a plaintiff’s employment law office. After a year on the Pacific Coast, she and her husband relocated to Roanoke, Virginia where she was a Pro Se Law Clerk under the supervision of United States District Judges Samuel Wilson and Glen Conrad. Following her clerkship, Monica worked for a large Roanoke-based defense law firm as a litigator for 4 years and then moved to a small, plaintiff’s civil law firm where she practiced civil rights law, employment law, and Virginia tort and contract law for 13 years. Among other matters, she has represented individuals in employment law cases against their former and current employers, students in fraud, breach of contract, and personal injury / wrongful death actions against their colleges, and individuals who have had their civil rights violated by law enforcement and other governmental entities. After joining Virginia Employment Law, Monica expects to focus on working on behalf of individuals and employees in the employment law setting.
