Virginia Employment Law Wins Rare 1st Amendment Retaliation Federal Jury Trial

After a three-day jury trial in U.S. District Court, Western District of Virginia, Roanoke Division, the jury returned a verdict for Plaintiff Sherry Flanagan, a client of Virginia Employment Law. Ms. Flanagan pursued a very rare cause of action: 1st Amendment Retaliation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. Section 1983. The jury agreed with Ms. Flanagan and her legal team that Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors Member Ronald Scearce retaliated against Ms. Flanagan by voting to terminate her employment as the Director of Pittsylvania County Department of Social Services. Virginia Employment Law lawyers that won the trial included Tommy Strelka, Winston West, and Brittany Haddox. The Roanoke Times reported upon the unique verdict which can be read HERE.
