Science Supervisor's Claims of Title VII Pay Discrimination Advance Past Summary Judgement Against Roanoke County Public Schools

As reported in the Roanoke Times, Science Supervisor Erin Barnett's federal Title VII gender pay discrimination case may proceed to trial. Judge Thomas Cullen of the Western District of Virginia authored a thirty-page opinion detailing exactly why Ms. Barnett's case deserved a day in court. Ms. Barnett claimed that a male comparator, the Supervisor of Physical Education with comparable experience and education as Ms. Barnett, earned more than she because he was male. The Judge agreed that a reasonable jury could believe Ms. Barnett's claims after reviewing the evidence and testimony the parties will present at trial. Title VII wage cases are some of the most difficult civil rights related claims in federal litigation. The article about the win may be read HERE.
