Fourth Circuit Rules: Wrongful Termination Suit to Advance Against Sheriff of Giles County

The Roanoke Times reported on Dunn v. Millirons, a wrongful termination case stemming from alleged retaliation against the 1st Amendment right to free speech, a rare case. After nearly proceeding to trial in the U.S. District Court, the Sheriff of Giles filed an appeal with the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to determine if sovereign immunity applied. The Fourth Circuit issued an opinion on Feb. 1, 2017 finding that immunity did not apply. The case will be heading to trial in the U.S. District Court. The Roanoke Times article may be read HERE.
