Virginia Lawyers Weekly Reports on Successful Jury Trial against the Commonwealth of Virginia for Defamation
Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported on a successful jury trial win for Virginia Employment Law. The Plaintiff alleged in a complaint filed pursuant to the Virginia Torts Claims Act that a report published online by a state agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia in March 2013 defamed her. The jury found that the defendant had committed defamation per se and awarded the Plaintiff $125,000.00 in damages. In finding that the defendant committed defamation per se, the jury found that “New York Times malice” existed. See New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964). The article may be read HERE.
